Diversity Statement Policy

Diversity Statements are not required by the Sunbelt Diversity Recruitment Program, however, some employers may request one. If a Diversity Statement is requested, the Sunbelt Diversity Recruitment Program would encourage the student to provide a written statement of approximately 500 words that tells their unique story.

Examples of topics to discuss in a Diversity Statement might include: obstacles you have overcome to get where you are. The statement may include information on issues such as race, national origin, gender, social class, sexual orientation or any other demographic that has been historically underrepresented in the legal profession. The statement should describe how the experiences have shaped the student into a person that can contribute to a firm’s diversity initiatives.
